Certificated and Administrative Employee Salary Schedules

Summary

This article aims to explain the certificated and administrative employee salary schedule for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools.

Information

The director of schools or designee establishes salary schedules and pay plans for employees that are based on the district’s strategic compensation plan and are designed to attract and maintain top quality staff. Certificated employees are placed on the Certificated Employee Salary Schedule. School administrators are placed on the Administrative Employee Salary Schedule. Please note that a current “administrative license” issued by the Tennessee State Department of Education, or its equivalent as designated in the State Board of Education Rules is required to be placed on the Administrative Employee Salary Schedule.

Placement on a salary scale is determined by a combination of education and experience. Each scale has a grade and a step. The step equates to verified years of completed experience, at the beginning of the school year, as listed in TNCompass. Grade equates to the highest degree listed in TNCompass. New certificated employees and new certificated administrators are placed on the salary schedule Step 0 for both education and experience until both are updated in TNCompass and verified by the Human Resources Division. When changing from an 11-month to a 12-month administrative position, slotting will be based on the monthly equivalent calculated rate; however, no movement shall result in a salary greater than the maximum for the salary schedule for that position. Administrators hired into Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools with verified experience in other school systems will follow the same slotting process as current employees which is detailed in Administrative Procedure 5.1206.1p.

In the event that an employee's grade and/or step are incorrect, it's the employee's responsibility to update this information in TNCompass and to notify the Human Resources Division. Retro pay administration for updated experience and degree information is only available from July 1 during the school year in which the employee communicated the update to the Human Resources Division via email to EmployeeServices@mnps.org.

At the beginning of each school year, salary schedules are published by Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. The basis of each scale is the previous year’s scale and any relative change approved by the Board of Education and subsequently funded by the budget approved by Metropolitan Council of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County.
